Neukirchen-Vluyn feiert fünften Christopher Street Day mit politischer Debatte
Numerous guests filled the venue, including Mayor Dirk Schauenberg, representatives of other parties, and volunteers from local associations.
Moreover, Nick addressed current challenges in German agriculture and warned that many farms have succession problems.
Her speech also covered societal political topics. She criticized the decline in swimming courses for children, which she attributed to a lack of teachers and delayed renovations of swimming pools. Another focus was on nutrition in schools and kindergartens, with Nick emphasizing the need for healthier meals.
She also criticized recent political decisions: She condemned the cuts in EU funding for organic farming and the increase in diesel fuel tax refunds for agricultural businesses. Until the end of the traffic light coalition, Nick had worked as Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and thus had direct insights into these issues.
The event ended with an appeal for further engagement. The participants left the venue with updated information on the priorities of the Greens and an awareness of the work still to be done at the local and national levels.
The fifth CSD in Neukirchen-Vluyn provided a platform for open dialogue on societal and political questions. The contributions of Dr. Ophelia Nick underscored the Greens' stance on trade, agriculture, and public health. The gathering once again demonstrated the importance of civic engagement in shaping future politics.
